Dear Colleague
Scottish Care would like to welcome you to enter your company and staff for the Care at Home Awards 2010.Last year’s event was a great success and rewarded fantastic staff and providers whilst also giving positive visibility to this often forgotten sector. The panel of Judges will include Anna Fowlie CEO SSSC, Jayne Rawlinson MD Healthcall Optical & Hearing Services, Edith Macintosh - Rehabilitation Consultant with the Care Commission and a Guest Judge.
This event is only a success with your participation - We have been working hard to ensure that we have the necessary sponsorship which is now in place from Care Watch Care Services, Health Call Optical and Orrkerrdykes.
To ensure success all we need is for you to note the date of your Scottish Care - Care at home conference - 28th May 2010 at the Glasgow Marriot and be sure to keep the whole day and evening free so that you can invest in your companies development with attendance at conference, then what better way to reward your staff with a fantastic night out by booking a table at the Scottish Care - Care at Home Care Awards Dinner -Booking form enclosed.
The entry forms have been made shorter and easier to complete, awards include, Administrator of the year to ensure that we include your valuable admin, finance and other staff, Personality of the year – and you will all have one in your organisation and of course Best Newcomer of the year. I have also given additional guidance on which awards are for individuals, Teams and /or organisations. Finalists for both the Innovation and Overall Best Providers awards will be chosen by the judges based on overall entries.
Category Entries -You are welcome to enter your work place, team or colleague in more than one category. However, if you wish to do this, please photocopy the entry portion of the form and complete a separate entry for each category entered. Please ensure all questions are answered. Entry forms can be provided and received by email.
Categories may be subject to change. All entries’ will automatically be eligible for and be entered for the Innovation and Overall Best Provider award. Entries at the judge’s discretion may also be entered into a category not specified on the original entry.

General Guidelines- When completing your entry, please note: All awards are sponsored in association with Scottish Care and (with the exception of award 10) are open to Scottish Care - Care at Home members only.
These awards will be judged against the following criteria: Entrants must be an employee, carer, support worker, nurse, team, manager or trainer employed by a Scottish Care member company and where required be registered to work in the UK. The work described must actually be happening or completed (proposals for a new piece of work will not be considered). Individuals or teams may apply. Entrants may be nominated by their service user, colleague, employer or manager.
• Remember to evidence training and continuous professional development
• Evidence of making the most of the opportunities that a career in community care can bring
• Examples of making a practical difference to the service an organisation provides
• Embodiment of the qualities of a provider – Choice, dignity, privacy, equality, diversity, flexibility, self-motivation, reliability, assertiveness.
Judging process - The wards will be judged by a panel which will include Anna Fowlie CEO - SSSC, Edith Macintosh - Rehabilitation Consultant with the Care Commission, Jayne Rawlinson - MD Heathcall Optical and Hearing Services and a Guest Judge, the process will be facilitated by Scottish Care. The closing date for entries is 29th March 2010. Entries will be short listed during April 10. If your entry is successful as a finalist, you will hear from us.
Additional Guidance for awards for Care at Home Provider of the Year, Housing Support Provider of the Year – In your submission tell us - How does the company manage personal training and the development of its entire staff. Is the company a family-friendly employer? Are there flexible working arrangements that encourage staff retention? How does the company promote equality and diversity in its community workforce? How strong is the users and carers voice within the organisation?
Additional Guidance for awards for the Service User Award- In your submission tell us – using your own company survey material if preferred (this may have been completed by a service user or their representative or collated in another way) as evidence of a member of staff who has been highlighted by a service user and eligible for this award.
